Indian Ring Size Chart for Men: mm, Inches, US and UK Sizes
The short answer

On the ring size chart India's jewellers use, each size adds about 1 mm of inner circumference, starting near 41 mm for size 1. A man's size 20 is about 60 mm around and 19.1 mm across the inside, close to US 9¼ and UK S. Most men's sizes run from about 17 to 25.

Indian ring sizes are a numbered scale, not a measurement, so the number on its own can mislead. The figure that travels between jewellers, countries and online shops is the inner diameter or circumference in millimetres. This page gives both for every men's size, with US and UK equivalents, and explains exactly how the numbers were checked so you can trust them when ordering a ring you cannot try on.

Find your inner diameter or inner circumference, then read across. Diameters are rounded to 0.1 mm; US and UK sizes are the nearest standard equivalent.

Indian size Inner diameter (mm) Inner circumference (mm) US / Canada UK
10 15.9 50 5¼ K
11 16.2 51 5¾ L
12 16.6 52 6 L½
13 16.9 53 6½ M½
14 17.2 54 6¾ N
15 17.5 55 7¼ O
16 17.8 56 7½ P
17 18.1 57 8 P½
18 18.5 58 8½ Q½
19 18.8 59 8¾ R
20 19.1 60 9¼ S
21 19.4 61 9½ T
22 19.7 62 10 T½
23 20.1 63 10¼ U½
24 20.4 64 10¾ V
25 20.7 65 11¼ W
26 21.0 66 11½ X
27 21.3 67 12 X½
28 21.6 68 12¼ Y½
29 22.0 69 12¾ Z
30 22.3 70 13 Z+1

For centimetres, divide the millimetre figure by 10: size 20 is 1.91 cm across and 6.0 cm around. For inches, divide the millimetres by 25.4: size 20 is about 0.75 inches across.

How this chart was checked

The Indian column uses the scale most Indian jewellers publish: size 1 at about 41 mm of inner circumference, with each size adding about 1 mm. Diameter is circumference divided by pi. We cross-checked every row against three independent charts: a published Indian jeweller's international size chart (which lists size 20 at 60 mm and size 25 at 65 mm), a second Indian jeweller's men's chart (size 20 at 19.1 mm), and the multi-country equivalency table in the encyclopaedia entry on ring size (size 20 at 60.2 mm). All agree within about 0.5 mm, which is less than half a size.

The US column comes from the US standard, where each whole size adds 0.032 inches (about 0.81 mm) of inner diameter and US 10 measures 19.76 mm across, as tabulated on this reference of US ring size dimensions. The UK column follows British Standard 6820 (1987), which fixes UK size A at 37.5 mm of circumference and adds 1.25 mm per letter, as set out in this table of British ring sizes. Each US and UK entry is the standard size nearest to the Indian circumference.

Why do Indian ring size charts disagree?

Because no national standard defines the Indian scale, charts from different jewellers can differ by up to one size, most often above size 20. Foreign sizes also fall between Indian whole sizes: US 7 is 54.4 mm around, which sits between Indian 14 (54 mm) and Indian 15 (55 mm), so one chart lists it beside 14 and another beside 15. Both are within a millimetre; neither is wrong.

There is a second, bigger trap. Many fashion, steel and titanium ring sellers label sizes by the inside diameter in whole millimetres, so their "size 20" is a 20 mm ring. On the jeweller's scale, a 20 mm ring is about size 22. Before ordering, check whether a seller's size numbers match the diameters in the table above.

What the seller calls "size 20" Inner diameter Inner circumference
Jeweller's Indian scale 19.1 mm 60 mm
Diameter-in-mm labelling 20.0 mm 62.8 mm

How to convert European, Swiss and other sizes

Most other systems convert easily once you have the circumference in millimetres. Use the table below with the circumference column of the main chart.

System How the size is defined Indian size 20 equals
ISO 8653 (much of continental Europe) Inner circumference in mm 60
Italy, Spain, Switzerland Circumference in mm minus 40 20
Germany, Netherlands Inner diameter in mm about 19
US and Canada Numbered scale, 0.032 inch of diameter per size 9¼
UK, Ireland, Australia Letters, 1.25 mm of circumference per size S

The Italian and Swiss rule (circumference minus 40) produces almost the same number as the Indian jeweller's scale, which is a useful check if you are buying abroad. The US conversion also has a shortcut: multiply the US size by 2.55 and subtract 3.5 for the approximate Indian size, so US 10 is about Indian 22.

What is the average ring size for men?

Indian jewellers' charts generally treat sizes 17 to 25 as the men's range. US jewellers often describe the average man as US 9 to 10, which is about Indian 19 to 22. Treat these as starting points for a gift, not a prediction for any one hand: finger size varies with build, age and which finger the ring is for.

If you are buying for someone else, borrowing a ring he already wears on the same finger and measuring its inside diameter will beat any average. Our guide to measuring ring size at home walks through that and three other methods.

How band width and shape change the fit

The chart describes the inside of the ring, but the same inner diameter feels different depending on the band. Wider and flatter bands grip more of the finger.

Band How it fits Size advice
Thin, 2 to 4 mm True to chart Order your measured size
Wide, 6 mm or more, flat inside Feels snug Consider about half a size up
Comfort fit (domed inside) Slides easily over the knuckle Usually your measured size
Eternity band set all round Cannot be resized easily Measure carefully; do not guess

For wide or fully set bands, confirm the fit with the maker before production. If a ring already made turns out wrong, see can a ring be resized for what a jeweller can and cannot do.

How to use this chart with AXIOM rings

AXIOM ring pages list sizes as S, M and L, with a product-specific inner diameter in millimetres for each, because the same letter can mean a slightly different fit on a slim band and a heavy one. Read the diameter, not the letter, and match it to your own measurement; the four-step method is in our sizing FAQ. If you fall between two sizes on any of the men's rings and bands, choose the larger one.

The practical takeaway

Write down your size as a number and a measurement, for example "Indian 20, 19.1 mm inside, 60 mm around". With the millimetre figure you can order confidently from any jeweller, in any country, whichever scale they use. Planning a kada or bracelet too? Those are sized differently; see the kada size guide.

Questions people ask

What is the average men's ring size in India?

Indian jewellers' charts generally list men's sizes from about 17 to 25. US jewellers often put the average man at US 9 to 10, which converts to roughly Indian 19 to 22, or an inner diameter of about 18.8 mm to 19.7 mm. Your own finger matters more than any average.

How do I convert a US ring size to an Indian ring size?

Multiply the US size by 2.55 and subtract 3.5, then round to the nearest whole number. US 10 gives 22, and US 9 gives about 19.5, so try 19 or 20. For a ring you will wear daily, confirm with the inner diameter in millimetres rather than relying on the conversion alone.

Is Indian ring size the same as the Canadian size?

No. Canada uses the same scale as the United States, so a Canadian size converts to Indian exactly as a US size does. Canadian 10 is roughly Indian 22, with an inner circumference of about 62 mm.

What is ring size 20 in mm in India?

On the standard jeweller's scale, Indian size 20 has an inner circumference of about 60 mm and an inner diameter of about 19.1 mm. Some fashion and steel ring sellers use size 20 to mean a 20 mm inside diameter instead, which is about two sizes larger, so check which system a seller uses.

Does band width change my ring size?

It changes how the size feels. A band 6 mm or wider covers more skin and feels tighter than a thin band with the same inner diameter, so many jewellers suggest about half a size up for wide bands. A domed comfort-fit inside reduces the effect.
