Chandi Ka Kada, Ring and Chain for Men: Purity, Price and Checks
The short answer

A chandi ka kada for men should be 925 sterling silver (92.5 per cent silver) for daily wear, solid rather than hollow, and sized to your hand, usually 2.8 to 2.12 (63.5 to 69.9 mm inside). Its price is silver weight at the day's rate, plus making charges, plus 3 per cent GST.

Search "chandi ka kada price" and much of what comes back is written for another market: rates per tola in Pakistani rupees, or affiliate pages listing plated bangles. This guide is for buying silver in India. It answers the questions men actually type in Hinglish, from "925 ya 999" to "asli chandi kaise pehchane", for the kada first and then the ring, chain and bracelet.

The rules are the same across all four pieces. Pick the right purity, check the weight, understand how the bill is built, and verify the metal before you pay. Get those right and the design is the easy part.

Chandi ka kada: 925 ya 999?

For a kada you wear every day, choose 925 sterling silver. It is 92.5 per cent silver with the rest, usually copper, added to harden it. 999 fine silver is softer; it bends out of round, dents when knocked against a desk and cannot grip a diamond securely for long.

India now has seven silver grades. The government release on silver HUID says the revised standard, IS 2112:2025, replaced IS 2112:2014 from 1 September 2025 and covers 800, 835, 925, 958, 970, 990 and 999.

Grade Silver content Hardness on the wrist Best use for men
999 99.9% Softest; dents and scratches quickly Coins, bars, plain occasional kadas
990, 970, 958 99.0%, 97.0%, 95.8% Soft Plain traditional pieces
925 (sterling) 92.5% Firm enough for daily wear Kadas, rings, chains, anything set with stones
835, 800 83.5%, 80% Hardest, least silver Utensils, some older pieces

A 999 kada has more silver per gram, so its metal value is slightly higher. That is the only advantage. For daily wear, especially with stones, 925 is the jeweller's choice.

Chandi ka kada kitne gram ka hona chahiye?

A solid men's chandi kada usually weighs 35 to 95 grams. The weight depends on three numbers: band width, band thickness and kada size. The table below gives approximate weights for a plain, solid, flat band in 925 silver, worked out from its dimensions and the density of sterling silver (about 10.4 grams per cubic centimetre).

Band (width x thickness) Size 2.8 Size 2.10 Size 2.12
6 mm x 2.5 mm about 32 g about 34 g about 35 g
8 mm x 3 mm about 52 g about 55 g about 57 g
10 mm x 4 mm about 88 g about 92 g about 97 g

Rounded, cable and open cuff-style kadas weigh less than a flat band of the same width. Hollow kadas weigh far less and dent easily. Use the table as a sense check: a broad, thick-looking kada that weighs 20 to 25 g is not solid silver. Our silver kada guide goes deeper into solid versus hollow and open versus closed.

Kada size: what do 2.6, 2.8 and 2.10 mean?

Kada sizes are inches and sixteenths of an inch of inside diameter. 2.8 means 2 and 8/16 inches, which is why 2.8 is followed by 2.10, not 2.9. A closed kada must pass over your knuckles, so it is sized to your hand, not your wrist.

Kada size Inner diameter (mm) Hand at widest point (cm)
2.4 57.2 about 18.0
2.6 60.3 about 19.0
2.8 63.5 about 20.0
2.10 66.7 about 21.0
2.12 69.9 about 21.9
2.14 73.0 about 22.9

Most men fall between 2.8 and 2.12. To measure your hand properly, follow the steps in our kada size guide.

Chandi ka kada price: how is it calculated?

A chandi kada's price is its silver value, plus making charges, plus stones if any, plus 3 per cent GST. Silver rates move every day, so compare kadas on weight and making charges, not on a headline price.

  1. Silver value. Net weight in grams multiplied by the day's rate. If the rate quoted is for fine silver, count only the silver content: a 50 g kada in 925 holds 46.25 g of pure silver (50 x 0.925).
  2. Making charges. Casting, shaping, finishing and any engraving, quoted per gram or as a percentage. On a plain machine-made kada they are modest; on a hand-finished design they can exceed the metal value.
  3. Stones. Each diamond is priced separately by size and quality, plus the cost of setting it by hand.
  4. GST. 3 per cent on silver jewellery under heading 7113, per CBIC Notification No. 9/2025-Integrated Tax (Rate), charged on the full value.

The tola trap. One tola is about 11.66 grams. Pages quoting "chandi rate per tola" in Pakistani rupees are useless for an Indian purchase. Indian jewellers quote per gram or per kilogram in Indian rupees; ask for the bill to show weight, rate, making and GST on separate lines.

Chandi ki anguthi, chain and bracelet: what changes?

The same purity and pricing rules apply; only the weights and the weak points change.

Piece Typical solid weight What to check
Chandi ki anguthi (ring) About 4 g for a 4 mm band; about 8 g for a 6 mm by 2 mm band Ring size in mm, band thickness, stone setting
Chandi chain Roughly 10 to 50 g for most men Lobster clasp, soldered links, 925 stamp on the clasp
Chandi bracelet Roughly 20 to 50 g for daily wear Clasp strength, links that do not catch hair
Chandi kada About 35 to 95 g Size over the knuckles, solid not hollow

A ring is where purity matters most, because it takes the most knocks. A 999 ring scuffs within weeks. For widths, weights and stone options, read our silver ring for men guide; for chains, our silver chain guide covers thickness and link styles.

Asli chandi kaise pehchane?

Check the stamp, the hallmark and the bill, in that order. Home tests can rule a piece out, but they cannot prove it is real.

  1. Stamp. Genuine sterling is usually stamped 925 inside the kada or on the clasp.
  2. Hallmark. A BIS silver hallmark under IS 2112:2025 has three parts: the BIS mark with the word SILVER, the purity grade, and a six-character HUID. Enter the HUID in the BIS CARE app to confirm it. Silver hallmarking is voluntary, so an unhallmarked piece is not automatically fake.
  3. Bill. Weight and purity in writing, with making and GST shown separately.
  4. Magnet. Silver is not magnetic. If a magnet pulls the kada, it is not solid silver. Passing the test proves nothing on its own.
  5. German silver. Also called nickel silver, it contains no silver at all: it is copper, nickel and zinc. Fine at its own price, a problem when sold as chandi. Our explainer on sterling vs pure silver covers it in detail.

Kada chandi ka design: which style suits you?

Choose the design for how you live, not only for how it looks in the shop.

  • Plain round or flat band. The most versatile. Easy to polish, easy to resize, works under a shirt cuff.
  • Cable or twisted (torque) kada. Texture hides daily scratches. Medium weight.
  • Open cuff-style kada. Slips on from the side of the wrist; suits men with broad hands and slim wrists.
  • Engraved or textured. The recesses darken with tarnish, which some men like and others polish out.
  • Stone-set. Diamonds or black diamonds in 925 silver. Remove it for the gym and heavy work.

A note on faith: the Sikh Rehat Maryada describes the kara as a bracelet of pure steel, and forged iron is the other traditional material, so a silver kada is an ornament rather than a kara. If a kada is for religious observance, follow your family's or gurdwara's practice rather than a jeweller's catalogue.

How AXIOM approaches this

AXIOM makes its kadas in solid 925 sterling silver at the Bharat Diamond Bourse in Mumbai, so the silver is firm enough to hold stones for daily wear. The Strength Kada, set with natural black diamonds, is from ₹82,500 at the time of writing, and the Torque Kada is a cable cuff-style design in the same silver with natural black diamonds. Both sit in our bracelets and kadas range, with free insured shipping across India.

The practical takeaway

Buy 925, buy solid, and buy by the gram. Measure your hand before you choose a size, ask for weight, rate, making and GST on separate lines, and treat any per-tola price as someone else's market. If the kada carries a BIS hallmark, check its HUID in the BIS CARE app before you leave the counter.

Questions people ask

Chandi ka kada 925 hona chahiye ya 999?

For a kada you wear every day, 925. Sterling silver is 92.5 per cent silver hardened with copper, so it keeps its shape. 999 fine silver is softer: a plain, heavy 999 kada is fine for occasional wear, but it bends, dents and scratches faster, and it cannot hold stones securely.

How many grams should a chandi kada for men be?

Most solid men's silver kadas weigh about 35 to 95 grams. A 6 mm by 2.5 mm flat band in size 2.10 is roughly 34 g; an 8 mm by 3 mm band is roughly 55 g. If a wide, thick-looking kada weighs under 25 g, it is hollow or not solid silver.

Is silver hallmarking compulsory in India?

No. Silver hallmarking is voluntary at the time of writing; gold is the metal with mandatory hallmarking. Under IS 2112:2025, a hallmarked silver piece carries the BIS mark with the word SILVER, the purity grade and a six-character HUID, which you can check in the BIS CARE app.

How do I convert a tola price to grams?

One tola is about 11.66 grams. Many chandi price pages online are Pakistani and quote rates per tola in Pakistani rupees, so they do not apply in India. Indian jewellers quote per gram or per kilogram in Indian rupees; divide a per-tola rate by 11.66 to compare it per gram.

Does a chandi kada turn black?

Silver darkens over time because it reacts with sulphur compounds in the air and in sweat, forming a dark film called tarnish. It is surface-deep. A silver polishing cloth removes it, and a kada worn daily usually stays brighter than one kept in a drawer, because skin and fabric keep polishing it.

Can a Sikh kara be made of chandi?

The kara worn as one of the five articles of faith is described in the SGPC's Sikh Rehat Maryada as a steel bracelet that should be of pure steel, and forged iron (sarbloh) is the other traditional material. Some Sikh men also wear a silver or gold kada as an ornament alongside it, and families and sangats differ on that. If the piece is for religious observance, follow the guidance of your family or gurdwara, not a jeweller's catalogue.
